Welcome back to Fashion Forward blog! Today I present the first instalment of the JBR Photo Model Profile series in which I endeavour to give local models a little more exposure and help you get to know them a little bit better.
Today, I talk to Madison Hardy (IG:@madison.hardyyy), a new young model from Mississauga. I hope you enjoy the interview!
JBR: "How did you first get into modelling, and what made you want to pursue it?"
Madison: "It's a funny story but I originally got into modelling with the expectation of getting rejected! I have always been interested in modeling but I was too scared of being rejected. I didn't think I had a chance, until I saw this girl online named Gabriella Carr. She was doing a challenge called "Book of 1000 No's", where she tried to collect 1000 nos. This inspired my new year's resolution, trying to get rejected 100 times before the end of 2026. I applied for the Canadian National Fashion Show, not expecting to get in. Since then, I've been in a few shows and I've been growing my modelling career!!"
JBR: "What's something about you that people might be surprised to learn?"
Madison: "I used to be insanely insecure in myself and I had no confidence. I had terrible body dysmorphia and even facial dysmorphia, I constantly doubted my appearance and personality. I constantly thought down on myself. Fortunately, modeling and helped me with that a lot! It's funny because 2 of my "friends" were talking about how I shouldn't model because I was "too insecure", but now they're my ex friends and I'm still modelling!"
JBR: "How would you describe your personal style when you're not in front of the camera?"
Madison: "Everything! I wear a lot of different outfits and styles, anything that looks cool I'll wear!! If I had to choose one style, I would say whimsical / alternative! I like to dress in layered outfits with lots of accessories! Most of the time, I do love what I wear on camera for modelling too!!"
JBR: "What has been your favourite experience or moment in your modelling journey so far?"
Madison: "Definitely the amount of support I receive from it! Every fashion show I walk in, I leave feeling more confident in myself and what I'm capable of! I remember my first ever show, The Canadian National Fashion Show, when I was just starting out. I had never modelled before and I was pretty nervous. I was worried I wouldn't be as good as the others.
Until, the woman running the show, Joy, took me aside and asked me to walk for a 3rd designer! I was one of the few models walking for more than 2 designers, and I was walking for a special designer that very people got to walk for! She told me how much she believed in me and she could tell I had great potential. Since that day, I've walked in many shows and I've often walked for more designers than the other models! I love walking for multiple designers, since I get a chance to show off my range and it leaves me feeling more confident in myself!
JBR: "Where do you hope modelling takes you, and what are you excited to explore next?"
Madison: "I'm honestly not looking too far into the future, since my dad always told me to worry about today first, but I would love to model for a magazine or something that everyone can see! I would love to be an inspiration to people, and show young teenagers that they can do anything they put their mind to! If you never give up, there is no reason you can't do it. I'm excited to start exploring commercial modeling, but I do love runway modeling and I think it always has a special place in my heart since it was one of the first places my height was a huge advantage for me. I hope more people like me will take this as a sign to try that thing they've been avoiding. I want to inspire people to try new things, and never be scared of failure. After all, what's so scary about failing? It's just an excuse to try again next time!!"
I had the pleasure of working with Madison in early August. It is so much fun working with people who have a positive attitude, loads of talent, and lots of creative ideas. I look forward to working with Madison again soon and I wish her much success in her modelling career!
